Legendary Giants coach’s Hall of Fame run comes up short

Legendary Giants coach Tom Coughlin has been passed over for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Coughlin was among the finalists for the coach nominee but fell short to former Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren. The two-time Giants Super Bowl champion will have to wait until next year, where the road may be even harder.

Coughlin coached 20 NFL seasons, eight with the Jacksonville Jaguars and 12 with the Giants. He led the Giants to five postseason appearances, posting an 8-3 playoff record with New York, including two Super Bowl titles against the New England Patriots.
Since leaving the Giants after the 2015 season, Big Blue hasn’t been the same. Under five different head coaches, they’ve made the playoffs twice, winning just one game under Brian Daboll in 2023.
New York will likely hire a new head coach next season, missing the stability Coughlin brought to the franchise.
With Coughlin as head coach, the Jaguars made four consecutive playoff appearances beginning in 1996. Since then, Jacksonville has returned to the postseason four times under eight different coaches.
Former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is expected to be on the ballot next season, along with former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.
The former led New England to six Super Bowl wins in nine chances and has 333 career wins, second to Don Shula’s 347. The latter coached 18 NFL seasons, winning a Super Bowl with the Seahawks in 2013. Carrol was also a great college coach, going 97-19 with nine years coaching USC, including two national championships.
